New Books

The strength of our shop lies in the selection of titles chosen from the enormous quantity published each year.   We are all avid readers and are delighted to introduce you to our favourite books.   It is impossible to convey this as well as we might wish through a web site, so we try to do a bit more.
We produce our own catalogues twice a year – one for the summer and one at Christmas – and these detail books we have particularly enjoyed and which we recommend for the season.   We also send out bulletins about unusual books we've obtained and special events we've arranged.
If you wish to receive these catalogues and our occasional bulletins, please sign up.

Martin Amis

Martin Amis is the author of ten novels, the memoir Experience, two collections of stories and six collections of non-fiction.

Tim Adams, reviewing this book in The Observer wrote:

"For at least the past decade Martin Amis has seemed intent on making the most distinctive comic voice in contemporary British fiction Ð his own Ð do the most unlikely things. He's put it in the mouths of historical tyrants and 9/11 plotters, he tried it out for size Ð for laughs Ð as an impotent monarch and Ð in earnest Ð as a survivor of Soviet purges. He's had a go at Americans called Russia and women called He and one of the problems with all these characters is that they have sounded too smart, too Mart. The first thing to say about Amis's 12th novel, The Pregnant Widow, then, is that it is a great relief to find him back as a Keith."
